Here we go again. The lie that won't die. If it were true and I were a business owner, I'd hire the cheaper labor, women. Right? No, it doesn't work that way.
I refuse to call it the Gender Pay Gap, since that's bad English. Gender has to do with words, such as god or goddess, not sex. But in calling it gender we're feeding the myth that the sexes are culturally constructed. One of the lies I was taught at the socialist indoctrination camp. That's almost anywhere that's not Hillsdale College or Thomas Aquinas College.
No, that's like saying employers pay people not based on perform & productivity but on accidents of birth. Oh, wait, they do do that, at least with hiring and firing, because of government fiat. It's called affirmative action, in which the Supreme Court recently heard oral arguments.
The "gender" pay gap myth has been around even though the evidence against its being caused by anything other than normal adult choices has been overwhelming and been present for over twenty years.
To suggest discrimination is largely responsible for it is to lie.
For example, I first learned in 1991 in Heterodoxy, a now-defunct David Horowitz publication, that recent female graduates earned 97 or 98 cents--I can't remember which--for every dollar that a recent male graduate earned. Listening to Warren Farrell from 2004 on the Tucker Carlson Show for just two and a half minutes is all one needs to learn the truth, as long as feminist ideology isn't at stake. Astonishingly, never married, childless women out-earn by their male counterparts by 117%!
Another astonishing difference is between male and female business owners. Business owners who are primarily motivated by earning money have the following break down by sex: 29% female, 76% male. Wow!

When raising children isn't an issue, women kick ass. It's a women's
world out there. And the choices reflect their values: getting married
and raising a family are more important (notice the apparently female commenter couldn't address anything; she just emoted.) than becoming a business bigshot.
These fraudulent advocacy statistics should be dismissed for being fallacious and misleading. They're spread to further a policy position, not the truth. Women earn less than men because of the choices they make. And there is a significant higher percent of gifted math students who are male than female, something I learned from Brain Sex, by Anne Moirs and David Jessel, which I've seen corroborated in recent years. (There are both more geniuses and morons who are male than female.) And we have more testosterone, which may be helpful in working difficult or dangerous jobs.
There's only one female UPS driver among about 40 in Laconia. What gal wants to be on the road eight to ten hours a day? Men do most of the overtime work in this country. I think that's a byproduct not just of culture but of genes. And the overwhelming number of on-the-job fatalities are male, something notably absent in all this fluffy discussion. I hate it.
Feminism=socialism.
