Life Shocks

I don't think I've been this shocked since a friend called to tell me Steve Boland had died, one of the group of Syracuse University students on PanAm flight 103 that blew up mid-air and crashed in Lockerbie, Scotland, Dec. 1988.

One of my sons' friend from the neighborhood, who comes over all the time, complained of jaw pain last Thursday. It turns out he has leukemia and will be undergoing chemo tomorrow  today. My wife called in tears--a mutual acquaintance told her.

Eric, 11, is an only child, and I cannot imagine the pain and suffering his folks must be going through.

Healthy and vibrant with me at the beach one week, off at Dartmouth-Hitchcock waiting for chemo the next.
