It appears we've had a bit of a networking problem here at The Manse.
Deb's computer has stopped communicating with the outside world and I've been delving into the problem. What I thought would be a job that I could quickly wrap up has turned into a three hour nightmare. Her machine now communicates with our router, but not beyond that. I've checked cables, rebooted her machine and the router, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, and a host of other things, but nothing works. The only thing I haven't tried has been another NIC because I don't happen to have one handy (her machine has an integrated NIC on the motherboard).
Isn't owning computers fun?

There was a Mcafee software update, end of last week/weekend (I forget the exact day), that basically killed the internet for people who installed it. I'll double check with Husband (who spent all day monday helping people "fix" the problem) but my understanding is that a basic uninstall-reinstall was fixing the problem. I have no idea if disabling it on start-up would have bypassed the problem as most of the folks I've talked to (or that Husband deals with) aren't savvy enough to try that first....
I do, but I disabled it as one of my attempts to correct the problem. That doesn't mean it wasn't affecting the connection to the outside world. (By disable, I mean I prevented it from starting at bootup. Do you know something I don't?
Please tell me you don't have McAfee?
